Taghazout or Tamraght: where to choose your surf camp?
The two villages follow each other along the coast, 5 to 10 minutes apart by road. Most camps drive their guests by van to the same spots, chosen each day according to the swell. What changes is the atmosphere and what you have within walking distance.
Taghazout, at the foot of the point breaks
The fishing village that became the capital of Moroccan surfing. To the north, point breaks such as Anchor Point and Killer Point peel into long rights for experienced surfers. More cafés, surf shops and people in the water. Everything about the spots is in our guide to surfing in Taghazout.
Tamraght, quieter for beginners
A few minutes to the south, Tamraght is more residential. Its sandy beaches suit beginners, and Banana Point works when the swell is big. More details in our guide to surfing in Tamraght.

How to choose your surf camp in Taghazout
What a package includes
- Accommodation: dorm, double room or private room.
- Meals: usually breakfast and dinner, sometimes lunch after the session.
- Lessons: about 2 hours a day on average, in small groups by level.
- Equipment: board and wetsuit, sometimes video analysis.
- Transport: van to the spot of the day, and often the transfer from Agadir for a one-week stay.
Coaching makes the difference
Look at the number of surfers per instructor (1 for 6 is a good benchmark) and the instructors’ qualification, for example from the ISA, the International Surfing Association. A good camp runs a level test on day one and changes spots according to the conditions.
