Lanzarote is one of the best Canary Islands for a surf trip: the long beach at Famara to learn, powerful reefs around La Santa as you progress, and waves almost all year round. Nearly all the island’s surf camps are in Caleta de Famara, the surf village right by the beach.
For the spots and the best season, read our Lanzarote surf guide. Here we compare the surf camps and one surf school, with their prices, what is included and their Google rating.

Famara or La Santa: where to choose your surf camp?
Almost all the surf camps and surf schools are in Caleta de Famara. La Santa, further west, mainly attracts experienced surfers who come for the reefs.
Famara, to learn and progress
Famara beach stretches over 5 to 6 km of sand: the ideal spot for your first waves, with room for every school. The village has surf houses, small bars and a real surf vibe. When you have the level, the San Juan reef is right next door.
La Santa, for experienced surfers
Around La Santa and El Quemao, the waves break over shallow lava reefs. Most surf camps are in Famara: if you are after the reefs, rent a car or an apartment in La Santa.

How to choose your surf camp in Lanzarote?
What a package includes

- Lessons: usually 5 days of lessons in the week, 2 to 4 hours a day
- Equipment: board and wetsuit during lessons
- Transport: shuttle to the beach of the day depending on conditions

Surf camp or surf school?
A surf camp puts you up and organises your lessons. A surf school only gives lessons: the right choice if you already have accommodation in Famara or rent a car to move around the island.
